Fishing Report
Lake Burton/Lake Rabun
Water Temp 51 deg
Clarity: Clear
Level: Down 9ft
The Bass bite has been steady and the morning bite seems to be best. We have been starting out fishing shallow with top water baits in the backs of creeks. This bite has not been lasting very long, maybe and hour or so. Most of the Bass we have been catching shallow have been Large mouth. Look for these fish to work toward a little deeper water as we near January. The mid morning Large mouth bite has been decent. We are using bigger swim baits with a fish head spin. The best depth for these fish has been ledges 15 to 22ft. Let the bait fall slowly and keep the line tight. These fish are biting soft and not very aggressive. The big Spotted Bass have been biting good on the main lake points and humps. The spoon bite has turned on. Most of the bigger Spots have been caught in 28 to 35ft of water. Work a white Flex It spoon with a moderated action just off the bottom. We have caught several nice Spotted Bass doing this. While working the spoon near schools of spots this is a good time to work a white jerk bait around the area while these Spots are up and moving around.
Trout:
The Brown Trout stocking seems to have gone well this year. These fish are in full force up in the mouths of creeks. We have caught these stocker Brown’s on just about any color of spinner or little crank bait. Don’t be surprised if you catch a larger fish or two while targeting these smaller fish. Most of the bigger Brown Trout are in the main lake channels. We have had good success trolling gold spoons and Lucky Craft Pointer 78’s. We had a 7lbs Brown last week with a really big girth. These fish have been gorging themselves on the Blue-Back Herring that are everywhere in the lake now. These fish should hold to this pattern over the next few weeks.
Walleye: The Walleye bite has been a little slow. Although the fish we have been catching have been big. Last week we had a 29in 7plus pounder. The spoon bite for Walleye seem to be working best. We have been using a 3/4oz white and silver spoon. Slow hops off the bottom work best. The Walleye are holding tight in the 28 to 40ft depth. Usually when you find one fish you have found more. These fish will work a little deeper in the next couple of weeks.
Gook luck! Stay Warm!
