Fishing Reports

Lake Burton Fishing / Lake Rabun Fishing

Georgia’s Unnoticed Fishery:

Yellow Perch often go unnoticed in Georgia.  This fishery thrives in most of the North Georgia Lakes. These fish are healthy and have learned to thrive off of the Blue-Back Herring population that the Mountain Lakes boast.  During the late summer months Yellow Perch group up in the grass and brush around the shorelines.  Most of these fish can be found in the 18 to 20ft water depths. Catching them is not difficult if you are close to one of these schools. Using a variety of baits an angler can be productive. Crappie minnows on a jig head often produces the better 12 to 14 inch fish. Any pan fish jig works well. My favorite technique is the Drop Shot with a small brown Robo Worm.  Look for these fish on the fish finder close to the grass. They burry deep inside of these grass mats. Cast a drop shot or jig out away from the boat working it on the bottom back towards the boat.  This will help locate the fish faster.  Once the Perch are located they should be plentiful! Oh and did I mention “These Are Great Table Fare!” real close to Walleye in taste. Good luck!
