Trout
The Brown Trout bite has been a little slow lately. Hopefully with more consistent weather and water temperatures the bite will pick up. Look for these fish to feed early in the mornings. Try trolling over long points near the main river channel in 30 to 40 foot of water. We normally set our baits in the 20 to 25 ft depths. We have tried deeper over the years with not much success. Look for these fish to start feeding mid afternoon as we head towards August.
Bass
The bass bite has been consistent lately with most of the fish holding on a 25 to 35 foot bottom in and around brush. Drop-shotting seems to be the best technique. Try locating this fish on a fish finder. Lock the trolling motor down on the boat and fish directly over them. we have caught some really nice spotted bass and largemouth using this technique the last few days. We should see a mid-morning mid-afternoon topwater bite in the next few weeks. The lake seems to have plenty of Herring this year. These fish are moving up and down the lake chasing the bait fish. Look for these fish to continue to feed on this pattern over the next few weeks.
Yellow Perch
July is the month to catch a mess of Yellow Perch. These fish are staging in the grass midway back in the creeks. Finding them sometimes can be a little tough. Fishing in and near the grass seems to be the ticket. We have been catching most of our Perch on a 18ft to 25 ft bottom using small crappie jigs. Look for this bite to continue over the next several weeks.

The bass bite has been good the last few days. Just about ant blow down is holding nice Spotted Bass. We have been hitting the edges of these with swim baits and flukes. We have also been working the heavy brush with jugs for those bigger females.
The Striper bite has been crazy the last few days. We have caught fish in about every point we have crossed. No big schools of fish but every point has a few laying up in the 20ft range. Gainesville Marina area has been good the last few days.

Lake Burton Fishing Report

Bass
The Bass bite has been great. Most of the fish have completed spawning and are hungry. The first couple of weeks of June will be a little tough with the water temp heading towards the mid 70’s. We have been catching most of our fish up shallow throwing plastics like Zoom Frogs up in pockets and around shallow docks. The Bigger fish seem to be hanging around heavy cover. With the storms we have had this year there is new brush everywhere you look. We have had good success with plastic works and jigs in and around the downed trees. The next few weeks is a big transition for the Bass. Look for these fish to go deep 18 to 28ft towards the end of the month.
Trout
The trout bite has been good the last few days. Most of the bigger fish are near the main river channels near the mouths of the creeks. Trolling small jerk baits and spinners has been effective the last few days. Bright colors and or Herring pattern baits have been working best. Try fishing at a depth of 14 to 18ft 3 mph. Yo zuri crank baits firetiger have produced a few bigger fish in the 4 to 5lbs range.
Yellow Perch
The Perch bite is picking up and should continue to get better over the next few weeks. We have caught some really nice fish in the shallows with jigs7 to 15 ft. This shallow water bite is short lived. Look for the Perch to head towards deeper water in the next week or two. June/July and August are the months to catch a mess of Yellow Perch.
