Lake Burton
Clear
Temp 50deg
The lake is 8 ft low
Trout
The Brown Trout have been biting good this month and should continue to for so for the next month or so. We have been catching 8 to 15 trout per trip with an occasional 6lber. The top water trolling bite has proven best. We have been trolling Loco spoons (gold) and mini umbrella rigs (5 arm swarm rig with rapala countdowns). For best results troll 50 to 80 ft behind the boat at approximately 1.8mph.
Bass
The Spotted Bass have started their descent deep. Try using a spoon (Kastmaster) or deep diving crank bait (Rapala X Rap). The spoons are working good early in the morning or on cloudy days. The crank baits have been producing mid-day to early evening. Today we had three fish over 5 lbs and one over 6lbs.
The large mouth are still a little shallow. Most of these fish are biting a weighted fluke (pearl) or a jig (heavy cover brown).
Walleye
The Walleye are hungry and have been feeding most if the day. Try using a Blue-Back Herring with a weight and flurocarbon leader 6ft( 25 to 30 ft of water on main lake points). Be patient and let the fish eat the bait. This is the key to landing these fish. We have seen some good fish this week. This pattern should hold for the next 2 months.

Georgia Lake Fishing
September 2, 2011 – 3:03 am
Today we fished Lake Burton for big Brown Trout. We were succesful. Mr. Smith and family from Buckhead Ga. Caught 5 Browns over 6 lbs today with one being 10.4lbs( a toad). The trout were all caught off of live bait (Bluebacks). The bite should continue to get better over the next couple of week before prespawn. I will post pics later. Capt. Wes Carlton

Today we fished the north and south ends of Lake Lanier. We boated 19 Striped Bass with the average size being around 8lbs. The fish seem to be hanging in the 40 to 50 ft range around and close to deepwater(trees). We also caught 26 Spotted Bass. The water temps have dropped a couple degrees and should continue to help improve the fish bite. All of our fish were caught on Bluebacks on downlines today from 14 ft to 40ft.
The water temps are sustained now and the Walleye are deep. Lake Lanier Walleye are hovering in about 38 to 50 ft of water. These fish will come up early in the morning to feed in the 30ft range. Try using night crawler harnesses and deep jigs tipped with medium crappie minnows. We have been catching some 4lbers the last couple of days. Lake Burton and Lake Rabun Walleye are not quite as deep. These fish are in the 28 to 40ft depths. Learning to read electronics (fish finder) is critical this time of year. The fish seem to be holding in certain locations well. If you are able to locate them they will typically hang around these locations for a couple of weeks. We have had the best success this week with Blueback herring. Georgia’s Walleye Fishing is getting better with each passing month due to the efforts of the fisheries dept. I look for it to get better and better each year. Join us for a guided Walleye Fishing Trip!
Walleye Fishing Lakes In Georgia
Carters Lake, Hartwell Lake, Lake Sidney Lanier, Nottely Lake and Richard B Russell Lake are the primary lakes in GA with populations of walleye. Richard B Russell Lake holds the current state record.
Georgia walleye spawn in spring and when they have the option will choose to migrate from the lake up into feeder streams to spawn. If this option is not available they seek out shallow bars or shoals with clean bottom surfaces near deep water.

Fish for Georgia walleye with live bait, crankbaits, spoons, small spinner baits as well as plastic worms and grubs.
How To Fish For Walleye

We set out on Lake Lanier today to catch some Walleye. We caught three on our first stop. I was telling the customers how good the Striped Bass Fishing was on Lake Lanier and they decided to try for some Lake Lanier Striped Bass. We ran down toward the south end of the lake. We boated six fish in the first hour of the trip with the biggest being 19lbs. We dropped baits between trees to 80ft over a 110ft bottom. We fished close to Holiday Marina most of the time and then moved toward Lake Lanier Islands. We totaled 11fish for the trip. Godspeed!!!!
Walleye fishing in Georgia is overlooked. We currently run guided fishing trips on five of these lakes. Walleye filled lakes( Lake Lanier, Lake Burton, Lake Seed, Lake Rabun, Lake Yonah). There are other lakes in Georgia with Walleye as well. The Walleye are thriving well, with our average weight going from 3lbs last year to 4lbs this year. We often have an occasional 7 to 8lber in a day of fishing. I look forward to the next couple of years of this fishery improving drastically due to the size of the fish we are currently catching. We have 3 boats and can accommodate up to five persons on each. Call to book a Guided Walleye fishing trip in Georgia!
Hot summer days can be tough on anglers. Keep aiming for the cooler
times when the sun is off the water: dawn, dusk, and after dark. This
week’s tip for lake anglers is to find the thermocline. (see bottom of
this page: http://www.gofishgeorgia.com/node/770)
As our reservoirs stratify, many sport fish and some of their prey
species, like blueback herring, will select water depths that contain
those species’ preferred temperature and oxygen levels. Find the
habitat and you’ll find the fish. Many stripers, hybrids, brown trout,
and even walleye can stack up in the cool water refuges on lower ends of
reservoirs, down near the dams. Some also run up to the headwaters of
reservoirs in their search for coler water (hint: Yonah dam at the head
of Hartwell).
