Lake Burton/ Rabun Fishing Report Water Temp: 76 deg Water Clarity: clear Water Level: down 12 in

Brown Trout: The Brown Trout have started congregating in small groups on the main lake humps and points. Most of these fish are in 29 to 35 ft of water.  We have been catching some really nice fish over the last couple of weeks with a few being in the 7 to 8 lbs range.  Try to target rock outcroppings or heavy brush. These fish seem to be feeding on the Crawfish in and around this type of structure. Drop shotting small pearl white flukes or a small gold Johnson spoons have been working beat.  The Brown Trout population seems to be good this year let’s hope the DNR keeps up their plentiful stocking efforts. Bass: The Largemouth bite has been an early morning bite. Try using a Super Spook or a small prop bait. There have not been many of these fish biting, but the ones that have have been BIG!  Spotted Bass are schooled up great with hundreds of small yearlings on the main lake points.  I have seen more schools of Spots on Lake Burton than in prior years. Let’s hope the Blue Back population will sustain long enough for these fish to grow up and possibly produce a new state or world record! Walleye: The Walleye have been feeding great the last couple of days! Most of these fish are feeding near the surface in 12ft of water. We have been starting the mornings trolling free line Herring 50 to 100ft Behring the boat. Try keeping your trolling speed around 1mph and working an area back and forth several times. Sometimes it takes a pass or two before they bite. The size of these fish has been impressive. Those of you who live close to Lake Lanier and Lake Hartwell should be seeing increased numbers of Walleye. Shad Raps and small diving crank baits trolled at 2mph have been working well on the bigger lakes. Try targeting a 35 to 50ft bottom around the timber for these fish. This pattern should hold for the next couple of weeks with the fish feeding better every week as we head towards fall!
