Lake Lanier Fishing

Lake Lanier
Water Temp: 53
The Bass bite has been great the few weeks. We have caught fish shallow and deep. A jerkbait seems to be the ticket right now. We’ve been working these Bates over long points in around the main Lake channel.
The striped bass bite has been on fire the last few days. we are not catching a lot of big fish but catching a lot of numbers. Free lining and downloading have both been effective we have had best success on small trout and blueback herring. Don’t be surprised if you go out and catch 20 to 30 fish in a trip. Good luck

Bass
The Bass bite has been great the last few days. We have caught most of our fish on jerk baits on long points close to the main lake channels. These fish are pulling up shallower every day to feed for a few hours. We are casting in the 5ft depths and working the baits back towards the boat through the 25 ft depth range. We have had good success with a white jerk bait with a chartreuse belly. We have also caught some bigger Spots and Large Mouth on a Ned Rig tipped with a pumpkin seed color worm. Look for these fish to pull up shallow over the next few weeks and begin their spawning ritual.

Trout
We have been trolling with Rapala X-Raps (XR06) Hot Mustard jerk baits and having good success. This bait seems to catch the bigger trout and the smaller fish as well. Most of the trout seem to be in the backs of the creeks in the 20 to 30 ft depths. Look for the Herring schools surfacing and the Brown Trout will be close. Try running these jerk baits in the 12 to 18ft depth range at a speed of 3 mph (idle speed). Working in and around the fallen brush around the bank lines can be tricky. This technique has also been effective for catching Walleye. Although the Walleye like a slower speed than trout; try limiting your boat speed to 2 mph for the Walleye. Most of the Walleye have completed their spawning and are hungry. This is a great time of year to catch a wall hanger or dinner.
Look for the Trout to slowly migrate towards the southern portions of the creeks over the next few weeks. The Walleye bite should continue to get better as we head towards the middle to latter part of April/ May.

Good Luck!

The Bass bite has been decent lately with most of the fish being caught on clay banks and rip rap in the 12 to 18ft depths.
Striper
The bite had been good the last few days with most of our fish coming off of down lines over a 35ft bottom mid way back in the creeks. Small trout have been working the best.

Bass:
The Spotted Bass bite has been great the last few days. We have caught most of our fish over a 12 to 17ft bottom. Herring Color jerk baits have been the go to bait. Most of the bigger fish have been following the schools of Herring close to the main lake channels. We have also been using a Super Fish Super Spin tipped with a minnow style trailer. Work this bait in the 15 to 25 ft depth using a slow roll retrieve. 3/8oz has been working best. Keep a topwater plug handy for surfacing fish. Don’t be surprised if you catch a 5-6lbs Spotted Bass.
Trout
The Brown Trout are still in the backs of the creeks. We have been catching most of our trout on the same jerk baits that we have been using for Bass. Be aggressive working the jerk baits, these trout like a lot of speed when retrieving. We have caught some fish trolling spoons out over the main lake. Try targeting the 20ft depth range and maintaining a speed of 2.5 to 3 mph.
Walleye
The Walleye bite has been a little slow the last few weeks with most of the fish concentrating on spawning. The spawn should be over soon and these fish will be biting again. Try working brush lines along the banks in 20 to 30ft of water. A small jig tipped with a live minnow or a fluke jr works well.

Good Luck

The Striper bite continues to be good! Most of the fish we have been catching have been mid way back in the creeks. We have good success with free lines early morning and late evening. Mid morning to mid day the downline bite has been decent. We have found most if these fish on a 35 to 50 ft bottom. Trolling u rigs has been successful during the mid day when the fish are not as active.
Good Luck Fishing on Lake Lanier!

Bass
The Spotted Bass bite has been good the last few days. We have caught fish both shallow and deep. Most of our bigger Spots have come off a 30ft bottom mid way back in the creeks. Spoons and Under spins are the ticket right now and should continue to be over the next few weeks. The key to catching fish this time of year other than sight fishing, is paying close attention to your electronics. We have caught a few Large Mouths on steep ledges with swim baits. This bite should pick up over the next few weeks if water temperatures hold.

Brown Trout
The bite has been ok and should continue to get better once the silt from the recent rains settles. We have caught some trout trolling rappala countdowns and Yo-Zuri 3D crystal minnows. Trolling at a speed of 2.8-3mph seems to be the ticket. We have caught a few Rainbows on some smaller mepps spoons the last couple of days.

Good Luck!

Lake Lanier Fishing

Winter Fishing has been great! We have seen lots of big schools of fish out over the main lake channels and in the backs of creeks. Free lining trout and Herring seems to be the ticket lately. There has been a decent top water bite as well.

Bass
The Bass bite has been great the last few days! We have caught some big Spotted Bass and Large Mouths on ledges close to the main lake Channels. These fish are aggressive and hit with determination! We have been casting in and around deep water docks close to outcroppings. A sinking swim bait has been the most productive. This pattern should last a few more weeks as we transition into a deeper water spoon bite.

Trout
The Brown Trout bite has been decent the last few weeks. Most of the trout we have caught have been on trolling small spoons (Little Cleo’s) and casting to surfacing fish. We have caught a few bigger Browns on Blue Back Herring free lined over the main lake channel. This pattern should continue for the next several weeks.

Walleye
The Walleye bite has begun after a long awaited warm fall. We have been catching most of our fish on a 20 to 25 ft bottom. We have been trolling crawler harnesses (night crawlers) at about 1.5 mph in and around brush piles. These fish are clinging close to structure and will not travel very far from these areas. Rocky Banks and points have been another good area to Target the North Georgia Walleye. Try working an area several times before giving up. These fish sometimes take some coercion and don’t always bite on the first pass. The Walleye bite should continue to get better over the next few weeks.
Good Luck!
