Lake Burton Fishing Report Water Temp: 52 deg Level: 6ft below full pool Clarity: Clear
Bass The Spotted Bass bite has been good the last few days. We have been catching fish up shallow mid morning in pockets. Top water Mini Heddon Torpedoes ( clear and green) have been working best. We have been working these around rocks and blown down trees. We have also had some success using a Texas rigged pumpkin seed finesse worm. Try using these on long main lake points where the afternoon sun sets. These clay points warm the water and seem to be holding more fish. The Bass spawn is right around the corner. Most of these fish should be pull up shallow and offer some great results. TroutThe Brown Trout have moved up in the creeks shallow and are feeding on the Blueback Herring in 15 to 20ft of water. Casting small Jerk baits and Rooster tails had been the ticket. We have caught some bigger fish slow trolling Night Crawlers on crawler rigs. Look for this pattern to continue for the next few weeks.
Walleye
The Walleye spawn should be winding down and most of the fish seem to be up in the river channels and around the bank lines. These fish are hungry and will bite about anything they can get their mouths on. Trolling small crank baits 2.5 to 2mph seems to be the ticket. This bite should continue for the next several weeks.

Lake Burton Fishing ReportWater temp: 49degWater Level: 5ft below full poolClarity: clearBassThe Bass Bite has been strong the last few days. Seems to be plenty of bait this year for the fish (aka Blue Backs). We have been having our best luck fishing before the fronts or a couple of days after. Mid way back in creeks in secondary pockets seems to be the ticket. Bream Color Crank baits and Pumpkin Seed creepy crawls have been working best. We have caught both Large Mouth and Spotted Bass using these techniques. Typically once you’ve found a fish there are several more close by. This pattern should continue for the next few weeks as we head towards March. TroutThe Trout bite has been a little slower the last couple of weeks. We have caught a few fish sight casting to surfacing fish mid lake. The fishing seem to be feeding on debris from the recent rains floating down the lake. This is a good time to throw a small spoon like a Kastmaster and retrieve quickly. Look for the Brown Trout bite to pick up quickly as we head into early spring. WalleyeThe Walleye bite has been a little tough this year with all the flooding rains we’ve had. These fish live most of their lives close to the bottom only coming up to eat on passing bait schools. Late February early March is spawning time for Walleye. This gives anglers the opportunity to catch these fish very shallow. The key to catching Walleye this time of year is intersecting the fish on there way to spawn or coming back from spawning. Try setting up and fishing creek and river channels. These are the best locations to target these fish. Casting and trolling Rapalas are a good technique for catching these fish. I normally fish a 8 to 18ft bottom this time of year. BassThe Bass bite has been consistent the last couple of weeks. We have been catching most of our fish in and around docks close to steep rock ledges. Spro Crank baits have been working best. The fish are feeding in the Blue Back Herring close to these areas. Mid morning seems to be the best time to catch the bigger Large Mouth on the bank lines. The Spotted Bass are still surfacing mid morning to mid afternoon. We have caught some really nice Spots on jerk baits in a Herring Color working main lake points.
TroutThe Brown Trout bite has slowed a little. We are still catching some fish trolling Yo-Zuri Pins Minnows 10 to 15ft deep over the main lake channel. Most of the bigger schools of fish have broken up and spread throughout the lake. Looking for surfacing action shortly after daylight can be a very successful technique for catching a bigger Brown Trout on a spinnerbait. We have even caught a few on small topwater plugs and jerk baits while Bass Fishing. This pattern should continue for the next several weeks as we head towards the end of January. The spoon bite should pick up as the water temps dive toward the 40’s.

The majority of the Bass seem to be heading towards deeper water for a summer time pattern. These fish will feed early morning and late evening. Most of the Spotted Bass seem to be hanging on a 20 to 30ft bottom. We have caught most of our fish casting under spins tipped with flukes. Working long points seems to be the ticket right now. Spot stickers have also been producing some bigger fish. This pattern should continue for the next few weeks as we near late summer. TroutThe trout bite has been steady all week. We have caught some bigger fish in the last few days trolling Strike King deep divers. These fish seem to be spread out a bit. I have been focusing on the main lake channels trolling from Timpson Cove towards the dam. They seem to react to the brighter color lures. Bass
The Large Mouth bite has been good the last few days. Seems to be an early morning to mid morning bite. Frogs in pockets have been working well. We have also been catching some nice Lips on Sinkos working these in and around logs and rocks. The Spotted Bass bite has been great the last week or so. We have been catching most of our fish on a 25 to 30ft bottom. Underspins tipped with Arkansas Shinner flukes seem to be working best. We have caught some really big Spots trolling Lucky Craft Staysees 90’s while trolling for trout. This pattern should continue for the next few weeks as we head into September.
Trout
The Brown Trout bite has been a little tough lately. We have caught a few fish trolling mid lake on spoons. I have been using Luhr Jenson Locos #2 spoons from my archive collection. Any color spoon should work this time of year. Catching these fish early in the morning at daylight seems to be the ticket.
Yellow Perch
The Yellow Perch bite on! These fish seem to be everywhere in the lake this year. We have caught some healthy 14 to 16inchers in the last few days. Look for the Perch in 15 to 20ft of water close to structure especially grass. Panfish jigs seem to work good this time of year.
Lake Burton Fishing ReportWater Temp: 69 degClarity clearLevel Full Pool Short & Sweet BassThe bite has been really good the last two weeks. We have caught fish on about every type of lure you could possibly throw. The best bite seems to the mid day topwater bite. We have had our best success throwing flukes in and around docks. Make sure to use braided line when fishing these wooden docks, mono doesn’t hold up well.Skipping under the walkways seems to be the best ticket. We have been working docks that have good access to deep water. The Large Mouth and Spots seem to like these deeper docks this time of year. The Blue Back Herring have been spawning along the sea walls and are always close proximity to the Bass. This bite should continue for a few more weeks as we transition to an early summer pattern. Brown TroutThe trolling bite has picked up lately. We have been trolling a spread of small jerk baits and spoons in the 15 to 20ft depths at the mouths of the creeks. This bite seems to be great or not happening. I think the bite will be more consistent as we head towards the 70deg mark on water temps. Bass
The bite bite has been good the last few weeks with the warmer water temps for this time of year. We have had spring time weather the last few weeks. We have caught fish shallow and deep with several different techniques. Most of the Large Mouth seem to be mid way back in the creek ditches. We have had good success with an underspin tipped with a medium sized pearl white fluke. Work this bait off of deep ledges letting it fall into the 20ft depths with a slow retrieve back towards the boat. Don’t be surprised if you catch a hog of a Large Mouth! The Spotted Bass are doing their typical routine of chasing the Blue Back Herring up and down the main lake channels. We have caught most of our fish on Shinner Colored crank baits and Herring colored jerk baits tipped with a dresser treble. Look for the Herring schools on the surfacing early in the mornings and late in the evenings. This pattern should continue for the next few weeks.
Trout
The trout bite has been really good lately. We have been catching a lot of smaller fish in the 15 to 29in range trolling small spoons (Little Cleo’s) and small Jerk bait in the 3in range. Most of the Brown Trout are in the mouths of the creeks throughout the lake. Look for these fish to continue on the pattern as we head towards March. The bigger fish should show up in the backs of the creeks in March.
Walleye
The Walleye bite has been a little slow the last couple of days. These fish should become more active as we near February and the spawn begins. Look for the majority of the Walleye to start feeding up shallow around the bank lines and structure I the next few weeks. Casting Bright Colored Jerk baits in the evenings will be the most productive.

The Bass bite has been on fire the last week or so. We have been catching slot of fish on top water plugs. Lucky Craft Sammy’s have been working best. We have been reeling these with an extremely fast action. We have caught some toads (Spotted Bass in the 5kbs range). Look for this bite to transition into a deeper crank bait or spoon bite over the next few weeks as we head into mid January. Look for most of the Spots to be on a 30 to 50ft bottom. They will come up sporadically during the day to feed on the surfacing Blue Back Herring.
Trout
The Brown Trout have been biting decent lately. We have been catching slot of smaller fish trolling Ugly Ducklings in the 18 to 29ft depths. The bigger fish seem to be still holding in the creeks over a 10 to 15 ft bottom. Look for these fish to fire up in January. They will show themselves throughout the day feeding on the small Herring fry this time of year. Try matching the hatch with small spinner type baits (Rooster Tails or Blue Fox). These fish like a speedy bait and will react to a quick retrieve. The Brown Trout bite gets better and better throughout January and February !
